“Leadership close up" - is the shepherd’s name of a very special training for executives. Getting 600 sheep under control and holding them together is the challenge of the prospective bosses. Either the 600 sheep follow you to new green pastures or you follow them into the nowhere.

Your team is taking over a flock of several hundred animals that didn’t have have breakfast yet and are not so keen on listening to you or following you. The challenge is to lead the flock to a new pasture through romantic valleys, along clear streams or across sunny forest clearings. A good sheep dog is replacing 10 shepherds, that’s why it looks so easy when the real shepherd is taking care of the flock. Your new four-legged friends will use every inattentiveness in the team to break out. That welds everyone in the team together. Learning from your mistakes is a must. You do not want to run behind the fleeing flock for a second time or go searching them in the thick forest. After two to three hours the team has become a tightly-knit team: listening and talking to each other, covering each other’s backs, working together.. You can almost watch how the team is growing together, getting stronger, taking control and enjoying themselves..
Of course leadership is the key. If the leader appears convincing and confident and communicates clearly, the herd follows almost effortlessly. The lead sheep then develop trust that their new leader will bring them to fresh grass and they will follow you. Leaders emanating to much aggressiveness, will scare away the animals. This will give managers a sense of the right balance of determination and letting go.
